snow day!
On Wednesday I woke up to a phone call at 6:20 AM.
"This is the UNC Emergency Alert System. Campus closed."
My university is nicknamed "University that Never Closes."
As in, my campus hasn't closed for a snow day in over 25 years.
So I jumped out of bed, and ran in the living room where all 5 of my roommates were standing, looking at all the snow outside.
It was insanity.
And once the gravity of the situation set it, we were ecstatic.
We ran around jumping and screaming and probably woke up some of our neighbors.
After going back to bed, we woke up and made pancakes and muffins.
Then got on our snow gear to go outside and play.
We threw snowballs...
stood on the tree that was knocked over by heavy snow...
buried Jayme in the snow...
and built a snowman.
Then we made cookies, drank tea, and watched Love Actually.
Even though we lost power for a few hours (THAT RHYMES!) it was still just as perfect as the rest of the day. We ate dinner on the floor in the living by candlelight.
You know how in Groundhog Day, Bill Murray keeps having the same day over and over again?
If I could choose one day to do over and over again, it would be this one.

birthday week.
Y'all. I've got to be honest.
I really love my birthday.
For those of you who know me in real life know that my birthday is my favorite day of the year.
And this year was no exception. But this year, it was more like birthday week.
I started off birthday week by going home for the weekend to celebrate with my family.
On Friday night, I went over to my sister's house. She made me the best cupcakes. And you guys, it is officially fall back home. Beautiful, beautiful fall.
On Saturday, I saw my brother, went shopping and spent a little birthday money, and to be honest, felt a little like Amy Pond...
I am super against mirror pictures, but it felt necessary to document. How many times in a girl's life does she get to feel like the mad, impossible Amelia Pond?!
My mother had been teasing me for weeks about a birthday surprise she had planned for weeks, and I knew that my dearest Kate was in on it, too.
So on Saturday night, we drove down to Golden and met Kate at Art on the Brix!
I had never been before, but basically, they have food and drinks and you're given a canvas and paints and you just paint! The theme that night was aspen trees.
Y'all, I cannot even tell you how fun it was. And Kate made me some scones, so that someday we can go out for texting and scones. (Best ever, right Whovians?)
And naturally, I had to include a tiny little TARDIS in my painting.
On Sunday I had brunch at my dad's, and he gave me the most incredible green rain boots that I've been coveting for months. I've barely taken them off since. And it's only rained once since I got them.
All this, and my birthday hadn't even happened yet!
My actual birthday was wonderful too.
In my 8 AM class, my sweet friend Missy surprised me with my favorite drink from Starbucks!
And my roommate Ryan made and decorated cupcakes.
And Paige gave me the best book possibly ever written.
And I'm anxiously awaiting some birthday mail from Raven!
Every year on my birthday I'm reminded of how I have the best friends in the world.
Thanks thanks thanks to all of you who sent me the sweetest birthday wishes.
20 years of life is feeling pretty great.

let's talk ABC's.
I've seen this here and there, but stole it from the always lovely Lauren.
Here's an ABC's of me!*
Age: 19. But 20 in 6 days! (EEEP!)
Bed Size: Queen. Because I'm a queen. (heh, heh.)
Chores that you hate: All of them. I'm serious. Every. Single. One.
Dogs: Jacci, the world's greatest dog. And our beloved Riggins, who we couldn't keep.
Essential start to your day: Orange Juice. I need it like other people need coffee.
Favorite color: Yellow!
Gold or Silver: Both. Make new friends, but keep the old...
Height: 5'6"
Instruments you play: I played the flute for 8 years. Yeah, let's not talk about it.
Job title: Student. And nanny in the summers.
Kids: I have two honorary kids. And they are all I want for many, many, many years.
Live: It's something that I do?
Mother's name: Leeanna, but to me she's Mom, Mama and Mommy.
Nicknames: Well, technically Abbi is a nickname since Abigail is my real name. But also Abergail (by my mom) Scabs, and Sharky (the last two given by my roommate.)
Overnight hospital stays: Kidney stones. You remember.
Pet peeves: Pen clickers.
Quote from a movie or tv show: "I hate disappointing just one person. And I really hate disappointing everyone. But I love Burlington Coat Factory. You go in there with 645 dollars, you are literally a king."
Right or lefty: Right.
Siblings: A sister who's 14 years older than me, and a brother who's twelve years older.
Time you wake up: As late as I possibly can. But usually between 7 and 8.
Underwear: I wear it.
Vegetable you hate: Since I dislike most vegetables, I will tell you that I like carrots. That will give you an idea.
What makes you run late: Hating my outfit. I usually start hating it about 45 seconds before I have to leave, and then I change roughly 3 times.
X-rays you've had: In 7th grade when I broke my leg, last summer when I got in a car accident, and last month when I had kidney stones.
Yummy food you make: I don't cook much, but when I do...
Zoo animal: HAVE YOU BEEN TO THE CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO? You can feed giraffes there. And giraffes are the best.
*Doing this might be cheating, since there is already an ABC's of me on this internet, over here.

on wednesday i didn't get dressed. on thursday i did.
*Disclaimer: this post is a jumble of things that do not fit together and should be put in separate posts, but I am too lazy to do so.
Sometimes I think there will never be a human lazier than me.
I'm serious.
Yesterday I went for a run.
And I know you're thinking, "Abbi, that's like the opposite of lazy."
But here's what happened afterwards.
I did not shower.
I did not get dressed.
I did not leave the house.
I made a grilled cheese, then ate about 30 twizzlers, 10 laffy taffy's and a cherry sucker.
And then I watched 6 hours of Supernatural.
You guys. Have you seen Supernatural? This show is awesome.
I just started the first season. I never watched it when it first started, because back then I was a brat and thought anything that wasn't 'real life' was stupid.
(But looking backing, was Marissa Cooper shooting Trey Atwood really that realistic?)
Basically, this show is filling the void that I am about to have since Doctor Who is ending for the season.
I highly recommend it.
But then today, I made some major changes to my life.
Like bathing.
And getting dressed.
And leaving my house.
And Paige and I took a little spontaneous trip to Hastings.
Bottom line?
Whether I'm leaving the house or not, I'm feeling pretty good about my life.

weekly loves.
Nobody likes a Monday.
At least I don't, but I'm guessing you don't either.
But since I'm trying to find the positive amidst the negative, here are some things I am in love with this week:
This shirt, which I'm dying to get, since I am now officially a Slytherin!
(The back says "Or perhaps in Slytherin you'll make your real friends. Those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends...)
Our new living room wall art, inspired by this pin on pinterest.
Bathroom dance parties with my roommates.
This song. I don't care what anyone says, Demi is my girl.
And this video.
What are you loving this week?

the hospital.
I don't know if this is too much personal information. I'm posting it anyways.
Yesterday morning I woke up with horrible pain.
Basically, it felt like someone was hitting me with a baseball bat in my lower back while simultaneously I was being stabbed with a knife in my lower abdomen.
So the decision was made pretty quickly that I needed to seek medical attention.
I went to the university health center, and after waiting there for nearly two hours with few answers, they suggested that I go to the emergency room.
After putting in an IV and taking a CAT scan, they found out that I had....
Kidney stones.
Have you ever had kidney stones?
If you have you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
If you haven't I pray you never do.
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
(And since I don't actually have a real life worst enemy, I would say my worst enemy is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. And I wouldn't even wish kidney stones on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.)
Lookin' good.
They had me stay overnight, and finally I got to go home this afternoon!
Though it was a less than wonderful experience, I will say this:
When you're in the hospital, you find out how sweet your friends really are.
I received the kindest calls, texts, and tweets. You are all the best friends a girl could ask for.
Last but not least, my dear roommate Sara decided to film what I like to call:
Abbi on Drugs.
The painkillers they initially gave me were so strong that I was a little out of it.
(She didn't know how to work my phone, so this lovely video was captured with the 8mm camera app because she thought that was the camera. So here's me, drugged out in all vintage-esque glory.)
It's a little hard to hear, but important to note that I was watching Friends, and in the episode that was on, Rachel was wearing a hospital gown. So naturally, she and I bonded over that.
It goes something like this:
-I look like Rachel. (Me)
-Do I look as good as her? (Me)
-You look better. (Sara)
-Heh. Better. (Me.)
-Brad would leave you too. (My dad.)
- I would never marry Brad.
-Brad is scum.
-I'm still mad about that.
(All me.)
